Alternate Universe Lemons Racer
When all looked dark on the prospect of Lemons Racing 2 men went searching for a plan B. Into the night and through the rain they worked to find a backup plan for racing. What they found is below a 1976 Cutlass Supreme that was returning to its elements in the backyard of a man down the street. It had been sitting for 8 years or more and the prospects were not good that it regains road worthiness let alone racing. The men didn’t give in though, and neither did the car….
We started out joking about it being so ugly it hurt and then started to look deeper. The car was on blocks and the tires were very dry rotted. There was a giant hole in the quarter panel and various dead animals underneath. For fun we decided to start it up. This is where the the story could have gone south but the car was not done with its lifetime and to our suprise started up with little smoke and then idled perfectly. Shocked we just stood there watching his hulk run like a new car. So trying to talk ourselves out of the purchase we went one by one to see what didn’t work. We tried the transmission…nothing but ooo wait it needs fluid now works great. We tried the brakes the power steering and wait…o it just needs fluid. So we decided to get it. The tires were dry rotted so bad we couldn’t get the car up from its hill bottom grave and had to go back with tires. We brought a car trailer to be safe…the car shrugged and said “it didn’t need no stinking car trailer”. The car drove home. Well all the while we were extracting the Cutlass I was still talking to Ken the Camaro guy. On the last day of getting the Cutlass out of its grave the Camaro came home. So what to do with this beast of a car. Well I have 4 kids and like to go to the Dream Cruise, let’s see if it can make it….
