Field trip to Nelson Ledges Ohio home of Lamest Day

Jenine and I had to go down to Ravenna, Ohio to get our marriage license so we thought we’d take a quick stop off at Nelson Ledges Road Course where all the Hoonage will be going down October 3rd.  The picture above is the location we’ll likely be getting married.  The flag stand gives us some level of weather protection as this is of course ohio and it enables us to get married at the start finish line and for the car to be my chariot to the wedding.  We are planning a “victory lap” around afterward.  Hopefully Jay is agreeable to all of this silliness of getting married there and we can get going with the planning.  We did take a ride around the track and found it to be pretty decent and I realized it was going to be a blast.  I also started to wonder whether or not we should have a tranny cooler and some way to adjust rear braking power.  The automatic transmission will likely be our downfall but it will be other teams downfall as well.

Here’s a look at the start finish line from the race track.  “Pit Road” is to the right via the road on the opposite side of the flag stand.  That’s where each teams paddock will be.

One more picture from the start finish line….

This is the Tech Center where we’ll likely be going through tech.

This is where we ended up after wards.  Nelson Ledge Quarry its a natural spring “water hole” with a very festive atmosphere.  It will likely be too cool to go to around October but you never know maybe summer will kick in late.

Update on the Lemons Camaro

Last night we made some pretty decent progress, getting the fuel lines patched up thanks to Brent’s fuel line he brought.  We now have a running non leaking car.  The rear hatch struts were replaced with the ones from the parts car.

To do this next week before the car goes to the roll cage guy…

  1. Patch floorboards (especially while fender is off)
  2. Install the fender from parts car
  3. Swap Drivers side door from parts car
  4. Check out and replace rotted brake lines
  5. Power steering hose replace
  6. Belt replacement, maybe alternator just to be safe.
  7. Install Door over fuel pump
  8. Oil change, and engine flush
  9. Reinstall the RS taillights (if someone wants to do it this weekend its the taillights that are not a grid pattern)
  10. Replace brakes and rotors
  11. Remove catalytic converter
  12. Body prep for paint
  13. Drop tranny pan and see what kind of condition the tranny is in.  We have another torque converter, I would guess for a reason.

The car may be going to Brent’s this weekend if he finds some time.  I’ll send everyone the contact info so while I am gone this weekend someone can be working on the car.

After the roll cage is installed we can do the following:

  1. Install Kill Switch
  2. Relocate battery
  3. Install Scott’s Seat
  4. More to come to this list….

Closest Lemons race yet, ending with a roll-over

24 Hours of Lemons Buttonwillow 2009 Leader of the race rolls his car on the last lap.  Read more about it HERE

Days working on car..

This week we’re working on the car Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday after 6:30PM.  I will be gone Friday evening and won’t be back likely until next Wed… Anyone want custody of the car over the weekend?

Saturday’s Lemon’s Camaro build activities

Well there’s Bernie and I, the rest of the drivers were spending time with their “families”,”girlfriends”, or “sleeping”.  So there we are in 90 plus heat fabricating stuff on the race car.  That computer case in my hand will end up being the door that covers the fuel pump.  We also used a couple case parts to fill holes.  Bernie went nuts cleaning up the fuel pump area only to nick a fuel line.  Yep a fuel line.  So we are on the prowl for another fuel pump from the other Camaro.

Yep there’s a milk crate for the seat…

Air compressor is now working.  Stupid thing was tripping circuit breakers.

Bodywork…What dent?

That is the neatest fuel pump access door in a Camaro ever.

To all of those guys who say this is a hack job well you are right.  But there’s no reason adding an access door does anything to mess up the body of the car.  In fact its stupid that GM neglected this.

Zach wanted sparks Zach Sparks gets sparks lol.  BTW he took all the pictures in this post.

So hot the car cannot breath.  This is what you get when a 10 year is your team photographer.
